1690 – 1764
Christian Goldbach (1690–1764) was a Prussian mathematician known primarily for his contributions to number theory and his extensive correspondence with Leonhard Euler. He is best remembered for Goldbach's Conjecture, one of the oldest and most famous unsolved problems in mathematics.
Formulated Goldbach's Conjecture (1742), stating every even integer greater than 2 is the sum of two primes
Extensive mathematical correspondence with Leonhard Euler advancing number theory
Contributed to the theory of curves, infinite series, and the integration of differential equations
Served as tutor to Tsar Peter II and held positions in the Russian Imperial Academy of Sciences
