The qualia inversion scenarios discussed so far are merely hypothetical—more cautiously, we do not know whether any of them obtain.[25] There are, however, “shifted” qualia scenarios that actually obtain. And, in fact, many of the philosophical arguments that appeal to the possibility of an inversion scenario can make do instead by appealing to the actual shifted qualia scenario, hence avoiding potentially controversial claims about possibility.
