Andrzej Grzegorczyk (1922–2014) was a Polish logician, mathematician, and philosopher associated with the Warsaw school of logic. He made foundational contributions to recursive function theory and the philosophy of language, and was also known for his work in ethics and pacifist philosophy. His career was centered at the Polish Academy of Sciences, where he worked for decades.
Developed the Grzegorczyk hierarchy, a classification of primitive recursive functions by computational complexity
Contributed to the formal theory of concatenation and the foundations of the theory of inscriptions
Advanced the philosophy of language through analysis of linguistic signs, tokens, and textual identity
Authored works in applied ethics and pacifist moral philosophy, including during the Solidarity period in Poland
Contributed to modal logic and the study of constructive mathematics
